The Youth Alcohol Advertising Council

This group of 10-12 young people from across the UK aged between 16 and 20 years have campaigned hard over the last three years to raise awareness about the amount of irresponsible alcohol advertising that children are exposed to today, particularly via social media, and to have the rules amended to provide better protection to under-18s.

David Babbs, 38 Degrees

David has been nominated specifically for his work in mobilising the campaign against the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. The TTIP is a series of trade negotiations being carried out mostly in secret between the EU and US. As a bi-lateral trade agreement, TTIP is about reducing the regulatory barriers to trade for big business, things like food safety law, environmental legislation, banking regulations and the sovereign powers of individual nations.

Dr Louise Irvine

Louise, a GP in Lewisham, south-east London, led the successful Save Lewisham Hospital campaign which won a landmark legal battle to stop the health secretary shutting services. The High Court last year ruled that the health secretary acted outside his powers when he decided Lewisham's emergency and maternity units should be cut: he appealed against the decision at the Court of Appeal, but lost that case too.

Lindsey Garrett & New Era Tenant’s Association

New Era Tenant’s Association campaigned successfully against their east London estate being sold on to a consortium including US private equity firm Westbrook, led by the richest MP in parliament, Richard Benyon. Lindsey and others, helped ensure the estate would be bought by an affordable housing provider saving 93 families from eviction.
