SMK Training

Annual campaigners residential

Date: Friday 27th- Sunday 29th November 2015

Venue: Trafford Hall, Cheshire

SMK’s 2015 Campaigners’ Residential weekend in Cheshire, was an intensive and enjoyable learning and development experience for eleven campaigners who were looking to expand their campaigning skills, receive individual advice on their campaign strategy and test their ideas with other campaigners working across different thematic areas.

The training weekend supported them in building a solid and realistic campaign strategy and plan for action, through exciting and hands-on sessions with highly skilled trainers. It also helped sharpen their campaigning skills and increase their knowledge through expert led presentations, facilitated role plays and group tasks, delivered by facilitators experienced in campaign strategy, tactics and communications.

During the weekend, participants gained key skills in campaign strategy and planning, which helped them to bring about change at a local or national level; learned about different campaign tactics, tools and techniques, with practical examples from successful campaigns; developed media skills under the guidance of a PR and communications professional; attended a one-to-one mini surgery in fundraising for campaigns, campaign strategy or campaign communications with our expert facilitators; and developed and tested campaigning ideas in a small group setting, with feedback from experienced campaigners and a leading sector expert.

“[The programme] gave great working examples to use and demonstrate. It allowed me to gather information and tools to be able to go away and do”

“The best course I have attended for years”

“A really useful overview of the campaigning process”

“The environment of co-working and openness between participants that was fostered by the facilitators made the weekend enjoyable and useful”

“I thought it was a great weekend. It was very useful to meet with other campaigners and be in a venue away from it all”
