Winner

Tim Helweg-Larsen

The Public Interest Research Centre (PIRC)

Tim is a mechanical engineer, specialising in renewable energy and is campaigning on global climate change through PIRC. PIRC believes that the impact of peak oil has been neglected in addressing current climate change priorties. 'Peak oil' refers to annual global oil production peaks and the beginning of its decline. His campaign aims to create global policy solutions to two of the most urgent issues of our time; climate change and energy.

Finalists

Sarah Findlay

Greater Govan Environment Trust

Sarah formed the Greater Govan Environment Trust after the decline into disuse of her local park and other public areas. Govan was a highly industrialised area and is now undergoing a transition through the regeneration taking place. Sarah is determined that the regeneration takes into account the social and environmental needs of the area and aims to reclaim the park as a community hub in order to provide greater opportunities for children's play and focus on a range of different environmental issues.

John Hancox

The Children's Garden

John has cultivated a food growing area in Glasgow's Botanic Gardens, to give children in the inner city the chance to grow, cook and eat fresh food. He aims to work in partnership with schools and community groups across Glasgow to teach young people conservation skills through the creation of a Children's Orchard, encouraging them to plant fruit trees and care for them.
