This award highlights the many campaigners based in the UK who are working to provide sustainable solutions to the environmental problems we face locally and globally.

This award is sponsored by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, a charitable foundation established with cultural, educational, social and scientific interests, which aims to help enrich and connect the experiences of people to secure lasting and beneficial change in their lives. The Foundation supports projects intended to help raise environmental awareness among the public.

Tim Helweg-Larsen, a mechanical engineer from Wales won the 2007 Environment Award for his campaigning on global climate change. And 2008 award winner Alex Randall is campaigning to encourage people to take action on Climate Change and to highlight the urgent need for an international agreement on carbon reduction.
