Shout Out! 2009

Shout Out! is an award for young campaigners aged between 15-18, campaigning alone or in a group of up to 5 people. This is for young people living in London who are campaigning or thinking about starting a campaign about something which matters to them, whether it be gun and knife crime, recycling in schools or bullying. We want to empower young people to make a difference.

This award is sponsored by The City Bridge Trust.

Winner

Aisling Finn, Aisling O'Rourke, Emilie Katogo, Emily Numutaako, Hannah Reilly, Rachel Dada

‘Pay Fair, Live Fair’: ‘Say NO to slavery, its soo last season', La Sainte Union, Camden

These young people are campaigning around Fair Trade clothing and want more high street shops to stock clothes which are made ethically. They are particularly interested in raising awareness about the number of young children, their own age or even younger, who work in factories to produce clothes. They want more young people to realise that while they might pay small amounts for clothes in cheap high street shops, they come at a cost to someone else’s life. So far they have created wristbands which they have been selling in their school to raise awareness.

Finalists

Zoe Stoll, Alice Goddard, Mattie Thaddins-Johns, Kenzie Donaldson and Shanti Gorton

Marylebone Church of England School, Westminster

This group are trying to encourage more young people to buy their clothes from charity shops. This not only raises more money for charities, but it also encourages sustainable shopping amongst young people. Some of the group already do voluntary work in charity shops, and they are hoping to put on a fashion show comprised completely from charity shop clothes.

Andy is the Member of Youth Parliament for Lambeth and part of a bigger group campaigning on the issue.
