Shout Out! is an award for young campaigners who are campaigning on their own or in a group of up to 5 people. This is for young people living in London who are campaigning or thinking about starting a campaign about something which matters to them.[Shout Out!]

‘Five Million 4 Ur Mobile?’ - Hendon School, Barnet
These young people are campaigning to raise awareness of the conflict materials found in mobile phones, particularly a mineral called coltan. Their campaign involves encouraging people to recycle old phones and also encourage companies and the Government to trace the source of materials and to ban conflict minerals.

‘Fairtrade Action Group’ - Bishop Challoner Catholic Collegiate School, Tower Hamlets
This group of young people are campaigning to get more shops in their local area to stock fair trade goods and make more people aware about fair trade. Part of their campaign includes turning their school into the first fair trade school in the borough, including the food, sports equipment and uniforms.

‘S.O.S. Earth’ - Central Foundation Girls School, Tower Hamlets
Leena, Olida, Shemma and Tasmeen are trying to make more people aware of the rubbish in waterways, especially of local rivers. Their campaign includes raising awareness by distributing a video they made about the River Lea. They want to people to recycle more dispose of waste responsibly.
Afsana Choudhury
‘Excellent!’ - Lister Community School, Newham
Afsana wants to campaign for the creation of a safe space for children, men and women to turn to if they have been abused. Part of her campaign includes addressing the issues of sex trafficking, violence against children and of creating positive images and role models for young people in the media.
Kieza Silveira De Souza
‘Youth Social Enterprise’ - Young Mayor of Lewisham, Lewisham
Kieza wants to increase skills and financial opportunities for young people through his campaign. He hopes that encouraging young people to set up or get involved in social enterprises would provide young people with opportunities, inspire achievement and create sustainable jobs in a time of cuts.
Award Judges
Matthew Downie
Matthew joined Action for Children in June 2010 as Head of Parliamentary and Public Affairs where he is responsible for the UK-wide influencing strategy. Prior to this Matthew worked as Campaigns Manager with The National Autistic Society (NAS) where he managed a campaigns team who were awarded the Charity Times ‘Campaigns Team of the Year 2009’ for the groundbreaking Autism Bill campaign. PR week also recognised the success of this campaign with the ‘Public Affairs Category Winner 2009’ award. Matthew has also been closely involved in the Gary McKinnon Campaign which, to date, has successfully prevented his extradition following accusations of his hacking into US security systems.
Prior to moving into campaigning Matthew worked in finance with Shelter, RNID and NAS. He has travelled extensively throughout South America, Africa and Eastern Europe and enjoys fitness and sport having recently completed his second marathon. Matthew joined the SMK Board in May 2010. He is married with one daughter.
Jenny Field
Jenny Field is the Deputy Chief Grants Officer of the City Bridge Trust. Jenny has worked for the City Bridge Trust as Principal Grants Officer, leading the monitoring and evaluation team since 1996.
She has extensive experience of the third sector and, prior to joining the Trust, she was the fieldworker at Lambeth Endowed Charities where she helped develop its grant-making policies. Before that she had worked in a variety of community projects. She is also a trustee of Charities Evaluation Services.
Colin Falconer
Colin Falconer is Director of Innovation at the Foyer Federation, where he leads the development of the organisation’s work to ‘Open Talent’ in all young people. He has held a variety of development roles in post-16 education, from establishing online learning communities in Tottenham and Tuscany to administering the world’s first distance learning degree for ballet teachers. He was a speaker at a TEDx event in Thessaloniki this year.
