Linda Butcher
Chief Executive

Linda Butcher joined SMK in September 2008, having been active in the voluntary and community sectors for more than two decades.

Linda's campaigning experience includes:

  • Supporting the miners, as well as campaigning against rape and violence, in the 80s;
  • Lobbying with other parents for more - and better - local childcare facilities and resources in the 90s;
  • Taking action with others, as a single parent, to successfully change Housing Corporation policy on the use of chemical treatments;
  • Helping to build, and act upon, a significant body of evidence to enable homeless or disadvantaged individuals to get the employment and training support they need and want.

From 2001-2008, Linda was Chief Executive of Off the Streets and Into Work (OSW), a charity that worked to alleviate poverty, homelessness and disadvantage, leading the development of the organisation from a London-based programme into an award winning, transnational network of organisations and individuals. OSW and CRISIS merged in 2010.

From 1992-1994 she worked for homeless charity St Mungos; followed by the Training and Enterprise Council in central London (later the LSC) where she was responsible for strategic partnerships, regeneration projects aimed at tackling social and economic exclusion, and capacity building initiatives until 2001.

Between 2008-2012 she was a member of the London School of Economics Research Ethics Committee.

Linda is a trained cabinetmaker and polisher and ran her own business making and restoring furniture.
