Social Inclusion
Working to break down social barriers and maximise the opportunities open to all members of society, the Social Inclusion award is for campaigners across the UK who are tackling social disadvantage and inequality.
This award is sponsored by Shelter, which gives advice, information and advocacy to people in housing need, and campaigns for lasting political change to end the housing crisis for good. Shelter believes everyone should have a home. They help more than 170,000 people a year fight for their rights, get back on their feet, and find and keep a home. They also campaign for decent housing for all.
In past years we have supported a wide range of campaigners in this category, from Kierra Box working to get young people more involved in political and social life, to Harris Nyatsanza campaigning for Zimbabwean refugees right to work in the UK. 2008 Award Winner Tara Flood founded the We Know Inclusion Works campaign to highlight the importance of including disabled children in mainstream schools.
