Winner
Claire Prospert
‘Newcastle Cycling Campaign’
Claire would like to establish a cycling campaign for Newcastle with a focus on bike commuting. She wants to coordinate the efforts of residents and local organisations involved in cycling and enable employers to become cyclist-friendly. Claire wants to lobby the local government to create better provisions for cycling, relating to bike security, improving bike infrastructure and increasing awareness of cycling among the community.
Finalists
Terence Kirby
‘Promoting the Use of Public Transportation’
Terry is working to maintain and improve public transport facilities in Leicestershire County. He believes that this campaign is more important than ever as the government is enforcing public cuts. A life-long, dedicated transport campaigner, Terry has already achieved many transport campaign successes. Recently, Terry was instrumental in saving twenty-five bus routes in Leicestershire from being closed. Terry is committed to sustainable transport and wants to create greater awareness about the necessity of public buses and trains.
Anita Turpin
‘The Three Rivers Way’
Anita is working to champion the creation of a shared-use route linking four rural villages on the rivers of the northern Norfolk Broads. Anita aims to create a safe route for walking, cycling and mobility scooters, encouraging active travel over short distances, supporting sustainable tourism, and encouraging healthy outdoor exercise. Anita has gained the support of 1,500 local members and has developed good relationships with Parishes, the district and county council, the Broads Authority and the Environment Agency.
